TRAI organizes Consumer Outreach Programme in Madurai

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India conducted Telecom Consumer Outreach Programme at Madurai Tamil Nadu on 06 January 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness among the telecom consumers about their rights and privileges, TRAI’s initiatives for improving Quality of Service in Telecom & Broadcasting Sectors, Cyber hygiene, Digital Frauds and initiatives of DoT for the safety of consumers. This event was organised in association with Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Large number of students/staff, telecom consumers, representatives of telecom service providers, Consumer Forums participated in the Program.
Shri Ch.Bhiksham, Sr. Research Officer, TRAI, Hyderabad welcomed the gathering and explained the objective of organizing the programme.
Dr. Manimegalai, HoD, ECE, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, Tamil Nadu adderessed the gathering and mentioned about EMF radiation testing conducted by them earlier and thanked TRAI, RO, Hyderabad for choosing their college for conducting the program.
Dr. L. Ashok Kumar, Principal, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, Tamil Nadu has thanked TRAI, RO, Hyderabad for choosing their college for conducting the program and urged the students to update their knowledge in achieving their goals by using this opportunity.
He has also mentioned about proper use of mobile and checks to be made while purchasing a mobile phone.

Shri K.V. Suresh Babu, Joint Advisor, TRAI, RO, Hyderabad delivered keynote address and explained about growth of Telecom and role of TRAI in orderly growth of the sector and at the same time safeguarding the interests of consumers. Also explained the roles and functions of Regional Office, initiatives taken for telecom and Broadcasting consumer protection. He had explained in detail in his presentation regarding the steps taken by TRAI regarding the maintenance of Quality of service, Unsolicited communications (Spam Calls) & Do Not Disturb (DND) App, Telecom Complaint Redressal mechanism, Mobile Number Portability, Apps used for channel selection etc. The Consumers were advised to make use of TRAI Apps (My Speed and My Call) which helps customers rate quality of Telecom services, speed, and performance.
Shri S. Sudhakar, Addl. DG, Department of Telecom, TN LSA has given a presentation on “Cyber hygiene, Digital Frauds and initiatives of DoT for the safety of consumers”. Shri Ch. Bhiksham, Sr. Research Officer, TRAI, Hyderabad has thanked Principal/ faculty members/students of Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), speakers, consumers, CAG Members from Tamilnadu and representatives from all telecom service providers participated in the COP.
