Aadhaar centres have been established in Post Offices across the country with the objective of providing Aadhaar services to citizens in their nearby areas. Through these Post Office Aadhaar Centres, citizens are getting utmost convenience in Aadhaar enrolment as well as Aadhaar updates in case of any corrections or discrepancies. In this series, keeping in view the continuously increasing demand for Aadhaar services and the convenience of citizens, an Aadhaar Service Center was inaugurated at Sector-17 Post Office, Gandhinagar on 7 January 2026 by Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav. With the addition of two new Aadhaar counters operating from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, a total of 38 Post Office Aadhaar Service Centers are now functional in Gandhinagar. At Gandhinagar Head Post Office as well, two Aadhaar counters have also been made operational from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM to ensure timely and hassle-free services to the public. Across the North Gujarat Region, Aadhaar services are being provided through 257 Post Office Aadhaar Service Centers. Aadhaar Enrolment and Mandatory Biometric Updates for children (age group 5-7 years and 15-17 years) are provided completely free of cost at Post Offices. For demographic updates such as changes in name, address, date of birth or mobile number, a fee of ₹75 is applicable, while biometric updates such as fingerprint and photograph updates are chargeable at ₹125.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that, Aadhaar has now become indispensable for all citizens. In such a scenario, the initiative to start new Aadhaar Service Centers is an important step towards further strengthening citizen-centric services. In this connection, special campaigns are also being conducted in schools by India Post for mandatory biometric update of children. Schools may, as per their requirement, request the Department of Posts to organize special Aadhaar camps at their premises. To reach the last miles, Aadhaar enrolment and update services are being provided in camp mode through laptop-based Aadhaar kits. This initiative reflects the Department of Posts’ commitment towards Digital India, public service, and ensuring access to services up to the last mile.

Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Gandhinagar Division, Shri Shishir Kumar told that as per the guidelines issued by UIDAI, every individual is required to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre at least three times. The first time is for obtaining a new Aadhaar number up to the age of 5 years, the second time after completion of 5 years of age for mandatory updating the child’s own biometric details and third time, after completion of 15 years of age for the individual’s subsequent biometric update. The Mandatory Biometric Updates for children (age group 5-7 years and 15-17 years) are provided completely free of cost.

On this occasion, Senior Superintendent, Gandhinagar, Shri Shishir Kumar, Assistant Director Shri V M Vahora, Deputy Superintendent Shri Deepak Vadher, Assistant Superintendent Shri Hemant Kantar, Shri Dakshesh Chauhan, Shri Bhavin Prajapati, Inspector Shri Chirag Suthar, Postmaster Shri Khemchand Vaghela, Ms. Raisa Mansuri, Shri Sanjay Patel along with other officials were present.
