Justice Revati Mohite Dere Sworn in as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court

In a solemn ceremony held today at the Lok Bhavan, Justice Revati Mohite Dere was officially sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The oath of office was administered by the Hon'ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri C.H. Vijayashankar. The ceremony was attended by members of the State Cabinet, senior officials of the Meghalaya Government and various dignitaries from the legal fraternity.
The appointment was formally made by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on January 1, 2026. The warrant of appointment was issued in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 217 of the Constitution of India. This significant judicial induction takes place during India’s 76th year of Independence, marking a continued commitment to the strengthening of the nation’s legal framework and the rule of law.
Justice Mohite Dere, formerly a senior judge of the Bombay High Court, succeeds Justice Soumen Sen, who has been transferred to serve as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
During the ceremony, Justice Mohite Dere subscribed to the oath of office, solemnly affirming her true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India. She pledged to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India and to perform the duties of her office without fear or favour, affection or ill-will.
The formal proceedings concluded with the Governor handing over the signed oath to the newly appointed Chief Justice, marking the commencement of her tenure at the helm of the state’s judiciary.
