The School of Internal Security, Defence and Strategic Studies, Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), Gandhinagar, successfully organised the Army Day Celebration today, the first of its kind: a celebration of our unsung heroes, our pride, our forces on 15th January, 2026. The “Army Day Static Display 2026” exhibited various weapons used by the Indian Army including T-72 tanks, BMPs, field guns, ISAT, URRF and LORROS. The theme of the display – “Networking and Data Centricity” – showcased an inspiring demonstration of the Indian army’s strength, strategic primacy and technical excellence.

Today, we stand united to witness the valour and honour of those who guard our nation. Indian Army Day is celebrated every year on 15th January to mark the historic transition in 1949, when Field Marshall K. M. Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian army, taking over from the last British commander. It honours the bravery, selfless service, and supreme sacrifices of soldiers in protecting the nation’s sovereignty and borders.

The event was chaired by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Dean along with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Prof. Saket Kushwaha. The Guest of Honour for the event was Brigadier Rajesh Kumar, Commander, 85 Infantry Brigade, Indian Army.

Dr. Dharmeshkumar Prajapati, Registrar, RRU, in his welcome address, highlighted the alignment of the Indian Army’s core values of service, leadership and integrity with RRU’s academic pursuits.

Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of RRU, in his address emphasised RRU’s commitment to the national goal of Atmanirbharta, and the increasing role of MSMEs and startups in the indigenisation of defence production and exports. He further highlighted NSA Ajit Doval’s speech where he had mentioned that cyber security and secure communication are not optional. He also stated the university’s role in innovation and research for providing deployable solutions to the armed forces.

The Guest of Honour, Brigadier Rajesh Kumar, in his powerful address underscored the timeless values of discipline, courage, and sacrifice that define the Indian Army. He highlighted the symbiotic relationship between the military and the nation, displayed extensively during Operation Sindoor, noting that the army’s strength is rooted in the unwavering support of its citizens. Addressing the youth as ‘warriors’ of the modern age, he urged them to look beyond traditional battlefields toward the challenges of cyber, space, and the battle for the hearts and minds. Concluding with a call to character, he reminded the audience that while technology is vital, it is the men and women with values who make the real difference, encouraging the next generation to prioritise being good humans, patriotic individuals, and respectful citizens.

Prof. (Dr.) Kalpesh H Wandra, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of RRU, in the concluding remarks expressed his sincere gratitude to the Indian Army for providing an unique opportunity of interaction to all the participants. He also emphasised on RRU’s efforts of transforming this collaboration into a sustained cooperation in research, training and national service.

The Army Day Static Display 2026 was a significant event at Rashtriya Raksha University, conducted in collaboration with the Indian army. This initiative highlighted RRU’s growing role as a bridge, connecting academic success with real-world defence experience. The event acted as a beacon of light for young hearts and minds who witnessed modern military developments in areas such as networking, data focus, and tech-driven operations, encouraging them to explore careers in defence innovation, security technology, and strategic studies. The event played a vital role in promoting interaction among students, faculty, and senior military leaders, and reinforced the university’s goal to develop future leaders who have hands-on experience, technological knowledge and a strong sense of national duty. The Army Day Static Display 2026 is a key milestone in RRU’s progress toward becoming India’s top Institution for national security, defence technology, research, and leadership development.
