The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office, conducted a successful search and seizure operation on 28 January 2026 at Goregaon (West), Mumbai, to curb the sale of non-certified and unsafe products.

During the operation, BIS officials carried out a search at M/s Daddy Drones, located in Goregaon (West), Mumbai, and seized a total of 1,057 numbers of electrical and non-electrical toys which were found to be without the mandatory ISI mark and without any valid BIS licence. The toys were intended for children below the age of 14 years and were being stored and sold in violation of statutory requirements.

The firm was found to be operating without a valid BIS Certification Marks (ISI Mark) licence, thereby violating the provisions of Section 17 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

As per Section 17 read with Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016, BIS will initiate legal action by filing a criminal complaint against the said firm. Further action will also be taken against e-commerce platforms found facilitating the sale of such non-conforming and spurious products.

The BIS Act, 2016, provides for imprisonment up to two years, or fine not less than ₹2 lakh for the first contravention and not less than ₹5 lakh for the second and subsequent contraventions, which may extend up to ten times the value of the goods, or both, as decided by the competent court.

BIS regularly conducts search and seizure operations across the country based on actionable information to prevent manufacturers and retailers from distributing substandard and unsafe products and misleading consumers.

Consumers are advised to verify the authenticity of products before purchase by checking the licence details through the BIS Care App. If a licence is found to be suspended, deferred, or expired, consumers may register a complaint through the app.

Information regarding misuse of BIS Standard Marks, including ISI Mark, BIS Registration Mark, BIS Hallmark (22K/916 XXXXX), and BIS Management Systems Certification Marks, may be shared with BIS through email, written communication, or the BIS Care App, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
