The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), supported multilingual communication during Araku Utsav 2026, organised by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in Araku Valley Mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju District.
During the public programme of Araku Utsav, BHASHINI’s Shrutlekh real-time speech transcription system was enabled during the welcome address session, providing live Telugu-to-English transcription with on-screen display, supporting accessibility for non-Telugu speaking participants and improving documentation of the proceedings.
The programme was attended by Shri Kandula Durgesh, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Culture and Cinematography, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and Smt. Gummadi Sandhya Rani, Hon’ble Minister for Tribal Welfare and District In-charge Minister, along with senior officers of the State Government.
As part of the official visit schedule, the Hon’ble Ministers and officials visited Chompi Village in Araku Valley, where tribal homestays supported by the Government of Andhra Pradesh are being promoted under tourism development initiatives.
At Chompi Village, the BHASHINI mobile application’s Converse feature was demonstrated and promoted for use by homestay operators and visitors, enabling two-way spoken communication between Odia-speaking hosts and tourists speaking other Indian languages, to support interaction and basic service communication at homestay facilities.
The Tourism Department of Andhra Pradesh is promoting the use of the BHASHINI mobile application across government-supported homestays in tribal and tourism locations throughout the State to facilitate multilingual communication between hosts and visitors and to strengthen community-based tourism services.

The BHASHINI mobile application is also being promoted for use by police personnel for multilingual public assistance and on-ground communication with tourists and local communities in linguistically diverse areas, supporting citizen-friendly policing and effective field coordination.
The deployment of BHASHINI during Araku Utsav and at community tourism locations demonstrated the role of language AI in enabling inclusive governance, tourism facilitation and livelihood support in tribal and remote regions.

BHASHINI is implemented under the National Language Translation Mission (NLTM) as a Digital Public Infrastructure to provide speech and text services in Indian languages through mobile applications and APIs for use in governance and citizen-facing services.
