The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing the Indora Chowk–Dighori Chowk Flyover on NH-353D in Nagpur, India’s longest flyover built entirely using Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) technology. The project has achieved over 73 per cent physical progress and is targeted for commissioning by June 2026.

Chandrakant Sinha, Project Director, NHAI Nagpur, briefed media persons about the state-of-the-art project during a media tour on Tuesday. He highlighted that the Rs. 998-crore project is being implemented to ease severe traffic congestion and improve road safety along one of Nagpur’s busiest urban corridors connecting Indora Square, Ashoka Chowk, Shitala Mata Chowk and Dighori Chowk.

The total project length is 8.9 km, including a 6.37-km-long flyover and 13.82 km of service and slip roads. The flyover has been designed as a two-lane, two-way structure with a 12-metre-wide carriageway.

The project uses advanced UHPFRC technology, enabling longer spans, higher durability and lower maintenance. The nearly 3-km flyover stretch between Bhande Plot Chowk and Dighori is fully supported on UHPFRC girders, making it the only flyover in India constructed entirely using this technology.

Key components include two ROB/RUB structures at Pachpaoli, reconstruction of the existing ROB, ramps at Daga Memorial Women’s Hospital, and completion of flyover works at Agrasen Chowk, where it crosses the Metro line. An iconic pylon-supported elevated rotary at Ashok Chowk, connecting major city roads, has also been completed.

Development of the road beneath the flyover, including improvements at three major and eleven minor junctions, is underway to ensure smooth movement of local traffic.

On completion, the flyover will significantly reduce congestion along the busy Indora–Dighori corridor by segregating through-traffic towards Bhandara and Umred, thereby improving road safety and reducing travel time.

Green Highways Initiative

The project also aligns with the NHAI Green Highways Initiative, under which large-scale ecological interventions are being implemented in the Nagpur region. These include a Bird Park at the Jamtha Cloverleaf on NH-44, spread over 8.23 hectares, three Miyawaki forests with over 27,000 plants, and four Oxygen Parks developed at cloverleaf interchanges, transforming highway spaces into sustainable green ecosystems.
