ICAR Sikkim Centre Hosts Live Screening of “Bharat VISTAAR” Scheme Launch

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, inaugurated the 'Bharat VISTAAR' scheme in Jaipur, Rajasthan on February 17, 2026, aiming to enhance farmers' production capacities. The scheme, launched by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, provides farmers with agriculture-related information and technology.

Through Bharat VISTAAR, farmers can use their mobile phones to get solutions to their problems, access central government schemes and benefits, dial 155261 for immediate solutions and market prices from various mandis nationwide, and get answers in their local language. The scheme initially offers services in Hindi and English, with plans to expand to 11 languages.

The launch event saw virtual participation from millions of farmers across the country, facilitated by state agriculture ministers, ICAR, KVKs, agricultural universities, and other organizations.

A live telecast of the event was held at ICAR Sikkim Centre, Tadong, Gangtok, coordinated by Dr. Sudip Kumar Dutta under the guidance of Dr. Ashok Kumar, Head of the Regional Centre, ICAR Sikkim Centre. The live screening of the event saw a participation of 53 field functionaries from the Horticulture Dept., Govt. of Sikkim, Gangtok district.

The participants' queries related to various aspects of the scheme were addressed after the session, and they gained valuable insights into AI applications in agriculture, inspiring them to explore AI applications further and seek additional training on the use of AI in agriculture in the future.
