AIIMS Bhopal is continuously working to provide accessible, affordable, and advanced healthcare services to the general public. In this direction, the institute’s Nuclear Medicine Department is offering important diagnostic and treatment facilities to citizens. AIIMS Bhopal is the only government institution in Madhya Pradesh where advanced whole-body diagnostic services are available through nuclear medicine technology. Additionally, PET CT scan facility, widely considered essential for cancer-related investigations, is expected to be introduced in the near future.
Nuclear medicine is an advanced branch of medical science in which safe quantities of radioactive pharmaceuticals are used to understand organ function and identify diseases. With the help of these agents, specialized equipment is used to assess how different organs of the body are functioning. This enables timely detection of diseases and assists doctors in planning effective treatment strategies.
At the Nuclear Medicine Department of AIIMS Bhopal, patients are provided diagnostic services such as Bone Scan, Cardiac Scan, Renal Scan, and Thyroid Scan. Treatment facilities for certain conditions are also available. Support is provided in cases of Hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid gland becomes overactive, as well as Thyroid Cancer. Additionally, when cancer spreads to the bones and causes pain, this technology is used to provide pain relief. Thus, nuclear medicine plays an important role in both diagnosis and treatment.
Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, all these services are available free of cost for eligible patients, providing great relief to economically weaker sections. Patients who do not fall under the Ayushman Bharat scheme are also provided these facilities at very nominal charges compared to the private sector. This reduces the financial burden on patients and ensures that quality services reach a larger number of people.
