The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Regional Office, Chennai, celebrated its 75th Foundation Day on February 24, 2026, under the themes “75 Years of Social Security Cover” and the Social Security Code, 2020.

 

Mr. Karthikeyan, Joint Director, Directorate of Industrial Safety and Hygiene (DISH), and Dr. Ramesh Babu, Director, Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services (DMRHS) are attended as the chief guests.

In his address, Mr. Karthikeyan highlighted ESIC’s pivotal role in strengthening the nation’s social security framework and elaborated on the transformative reforms introduced through the Social Security Code, 2020. He particularly appreciated the inclusion of gig workers and unorganized sector workers within the ambit of social security, describing it as a progressive step toward inclusive development. The dignitaries emphasized that farmers, factory workers, and all sections of the workforce are vital pillars of national growth, and that ESIC continues to ensure their welfare and protection.

 

Regional Director (In-Charge), Mr. Harjeet Singh, outlined the ESIC’s initiatives toward digitization, enhanced transparency, and improved service delivery for the benefit of both employees and employers. He also highlighted measures aimed at promoting ease of doing business, including simplified compliance procedures with the introduction of a single register and single license system.

An awareness programme was conducted for employers by Deputy Director Mr. M. Arul Raj, featuring a detailed presentation on the benefits available under the ESI Scheme in the context of the Social Security Code, 2020. The session provided clarity on key provisions, addressed employer queries, and facilitated constructive discussions on worker welfare.
