NPSS - Artificial Intelligence (AI) Driven Pest Surveillance : Awareness Training Programme organized by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Ernakulam

In a significant step toward modernizing crop protection, Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Ernakulam, organized a one-day awareness training programme on National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS) .The event, held under the aegis of the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage (DPPQ&S), brought together nearly 100 officials from the State Agriculture Department, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and various ICAR institutes to streamline digital pest management strategies. NPSS is developed by ICAR-NRIIPM ,DPPQ&S with support from DA&FW. It is an initiative by use of latest AI/ML technologies aimed to provide instantaneous solution to the farming community for adopting sustainable management measures. The programme was chaired by Dr.J.P. Singh, Plant Protection Adviser, DPPQ&S Faridabad.
Highlighting the shift toward technology-driven agriculture, Dr. Sunita Pandey, Joint Director (IPM Division), presented the benefits & current progress of NPSS. Shri.Venu Babu Bolli, Assistant Plant Protection Officer (APPO) demonstrated on NPSS mobile application which is available at Play store & App store. Principal Agricultural Officer, Ernakulam, Deputy Director (Extension & Training) delivered special address. The session saw active participation and constructive feedback from State Agricultural officials, Assistant Director , Kerala Centre for Pest Management Alappuzha, KAU professors and Scientists from IISR Kozhikode and CPCRI Kayamkulam. Suggestions focused on improving the user interface for local farmers and ensuring the AI models account for Kerala’s unique crop & pest profiles. Smt. Elizabeth Jaya Thomas, Assistant Director, CIPMC Ernakulam welcomed the gathering & concluded with Vote of Thanks by Dr.Renjumol R, Assistant Plant Protection Officer(APPO). This event marks a milestone in the regional rollout of India’s digital agricultural surveillance framework.
