PRL, Ahmedabad, will host the “PRL Workshop on Condensed Matter Physics” from 9 to 13 March 2026. This national-level workshop is designed specifically for early-stage PhD students. It will provide a comprehensive introduction to the core concepts and fundamental theoretical tools in modern quantum condensed-matter physics.

The event is expected to welcome over 50 participants representing institutions across India. The programme will encompass key topics, such as Topology in Non-Interacting Systems; Semiclassical Transport Theory; The Quantum Hall Effect; Green’s Functions and Many-Body Physics; Theory of Superconductivity, with the objective of establishing a strong theoretical foundation for advanced scientific inquiry. These structured series of lectures and tutorials will be delivered by eminent faculty from India’s foremost research institutions.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to present their doctoral research through flash talk presentations, fostering academic exchange and peer learning among emerging researchers.

PRL-IAPT Outreach Lecture: The workshop will also feature the 8th annual prestigious PRL-IAPT (Indian Association of Physics Teachers) Lecture, to be delivered by Prof. Dibyendu Chakrabarty of PRL. The PRL-IAPT Lecture Series is a distinguished outreach and teacher-training initiative that fosters meaningful connections between frontier research and undergraduate education, aiming to enhance conceptual learning in physics nationwide.

National workshops of this nature play an immensely important and indispensable role in deepening early-career scientists' understanding of condensed matter theory and its methodologies. This is particularly pertinent given the growing community of emerging researchers working on quantum materials and related areas in India. Through such activities in precious human resource development, PRL reaffirms its commitment to nurturing scientific talent and strengthening the research ecosystem across the country, in its role as a capacity-building institution for the nation.
