The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali inaugurated the 5th Conference on Drug Discovery and Development in New Millennium (D3NM-5) today i.e. on 06.03.2026. The theme of this three days conference (6th to 8th March, 2026 is “Next-Generation Therapeutics”.
Prof. SS Sharma, Chairman of the Organizing Committee in his address welcomed all the participants, speakers and all other present on the occasion. 

He also briefed the history of D3NM Conferences organized by NIPER, Mohali. Prof. KB Tikoo, Dean, NIPER mentioned that AI is the buzz word and there is no replacement for animal studies. Prof. Dulal Panda, Director, NIPER Mohali in his address mentioned that AI is a interdisciplinary subject. The Pharmacoinformatics should push hard the discovery sciences. The cross-disciplinary education is very important. Prof. Anil Gulati, Chairman and CEO, Pharmazz, Inc., USA, as Guest of Honour, in his address mentioned that in an institute like NIPER, building up the careers is building up the country.  It was followed by the address by Prof. Y. K. Gupta, President, AIIMS Kalyani, as Chief Guest of the occasion. 

He mentioned that the drug development has changed from the ‘serendipity’. Now we look for target-based discovery. The AI has played major role in drug development. He further mentioned that AI will not change the jobs, only the format of jobs will change. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Ashutosh Kumar, Asstt. Prof. Dept. of Pharmacology.

D3NM-5 is bringing together approximately 200 pharmaceutical postgraduates, PhD scholars, and researchers from across leading experts from across industry and academia to deliberate on cutting-edge advances in modern drug discovery and development.

The scientific program will focus on emerging modalities such as CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, CAR-T cell and antibody-based therapies, organoid models, mitochondrial-targeted (mito-) therapies, and gene therapy, alongside discussions on next-generation therapeutic strategies. Sessions will also highlight industrial success stories, novel pharmacological targets, advanced experimental models, and the transformative role of artificial intelligence and network pharmacology in accelerating drug discovery pipelines. 

The conference will feature invited talks, oral presentations, and poster sessions, providing a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. Led by Prof. Dulal Panda (Patron), Prof. S. S. Sharma (Organizing Chairman), Dr. Ujjwal M. Mahajan and Dr. Ashutosh Kumar (Organizing Secretaries), D3NM-5 are aiming to build on this foundation by fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in the rapidly evolving landscape of next-generation therapeutics.
