JIPMER Organises Jan Aushadhi Awareness Rally to Promote Affordable Healthcare

To mark the nationwide Jan Aushadhi Diwas Week, the Department of Pharmacy at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry organised an awareness rally on 06 March 2026 in collaboration with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), Chennai.
The initiative was conducted in line with the vision of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, with the objective of making quality generic medicines available to the public at affordable prices through dedicated outlets known as Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
The rally was flagged off by Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director of JIPMER, along with Dr. Vinod Kumar Saka, Medical Superintendent, in the presence of Shri S. Rangabashiam, Deputy Director (Administration).
During the programme, Dr. L. N. Babu highlighted the quality assurance and safety standards of medicines provided under the PMBJP scheme. Mr. Murali Mugundhan explained the substantial cost savings and benefits offered by Jan Aushadhi pharmacies to the general public.
At the conclusion of the rally, Dr. R. Kesavan, Officer-in-Charge of Pharmacy, JIPMER, addressed patients and members of the public, clarifying various aspects of the Jan Aushadhi and PMBJP schemes. He elaborated on the Government of India’s initiatives aimed at ensuring “Quality Medicines for All” and explained the price advantages of medicines available at Jan Aushadhi outlets compared to private pharmacies.
