The service sector plays a crucial role in the Indian economy and has become India’s most powerful growth engine in the past few decades. The contribution of service sector is maximum in the country’s GDP. While unincorporated service sector is covered in the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) conducted by NSO, regular data pertaining to detailed economic and operational characteristics, employment, etc. are not available with industry-wise or State/UT-wise break-up for the incorporated service sector. To address this data gap, it was felt necessary to build a comprehensive database of corporate service sector enterprises with the desired level of granularity through a regular annual survey. This prompted NSO to launch the Annual Survey of Incorporated Services Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) dedicated to the sector including construction.

The All-India Workshop of Trainers (AIWOT) for Annual Survey of Incorporated Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) was conducted by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation on 29th January, 2026 at Le Royal Meridien, Chennai. In continuation of the AIWOT, the Regional Training Camp (RTC) for ASISSE 2026 for the officers/officials of National Statistics Office, (Field Operations Division), Tamil Nadu (North) Region Chennai including Sub-Regional Offices located at Cuddalore, Vellore and Puducherry is scheduled to be held on 16th March, 2026 at Conference Hall No. 1, ‘A’ Wing, Shastri Bhawan, Nungambakkam, Chennai. 

Dr. Chandrasekar K, Joint Director, NSO (FOD), Tamil Nadu (North) Region will welcome the gathering and Shri. Manohar R, Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), Tamil Nadu (North) Region will inaugurate the RTC, 2026. The Technical Sessions will be conducted by                          Dr. Balasubramanian S V, Senior Statistical Officer, NSO (FOD), Tamil Nadu (North) Region.

The principal objective of ASISSE is to develop a comprehensive database of the corporate service sector of the country. Given the importance of this sector, it is imperative that a survey may be designed to capture the key characteristics such as gross value added (GVA), fixed capital, capital formation, employment, emoluments paid and other important features pertaining to the units belonging to the sector not only at State level but also at different industry level. The ASISSE has been designed exclusively for this purpose to cover the corporate part of service sector using GSTN based enterprise approach.

The coverage of ASISSE is essentially the corporate entities i.e. entities registered under Companies Act, 1956 or Companies Act, 2013 or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) Act, 2008 and belonging to service sector. Unincorporated entities are excluded from the coverage of ASISSE.

The period of survey will be of one year duration staring from 1st April, 2026 and will end on 31st March, 2027. The survey will be carried out under the aegis of the Collection of Statistics Act 2008 and the Rules framed thereunder.
