The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), India’s first multipurpose river valley project, has recorded a robust and comprehensive performance during the financial year 2025–26, achieving a significant milestone across power generation, financial management, digital transformation, sustainability, and community outreach.
Power Generation and Technical Excellence
DVC reported total power generation of 40,103 million units (MU) during FY 2025–26. This includes 39,719 MU from thermal, 351 MU from hydel, and a record 33.3 MU from solar energy, reflecting the organisation’s growing emphasis on renewable energy integration.
Hydel power generation surpassed the target significantly, while solar generation reached an all-time high. Several DVC thermal power stations featured among the top-performing plants in the central sector in terms of Plant Load Factor (PLF).
A major technological milestone was achieved with the commissioning of an advanced Load Despatch Centre under ULDC Phase-III, enabling real-time grid monitoring—an initiative of national significance. Additionally, the complete digitisation of the transmission network (11 kV to 400 kV) through PG-DARPAN and GIS-based asset mapping has enhanced operational efficiency and transparency.
DVC also achieved record coal excavation of 6 million metric tonnes (MMT) from its captive coal mines and secured long-term fuel security through allocation of new coal blocks with a combined capacity of 53 MMT.
The Corporation delivered 714 MU of green energy across West Bengal and Jharkhand at regulated green tariffs, reinforcing its commitment to clean energy transition.
Progress in Capacity Expansion Projects
DVC made notable progress in its ongoing and upcoming projects:
Formation of a joint venture with Coal India Limited for development of 2x800 MW units at Chandrapura, marking a significant step towards enhancing generation capacity.
Continued progress in Koderma TPS (Phase-II: 2x800 MW) and Raghunathpur TPS (Phase-II: 2x660 MW).
Award of contracts for large-scale floating solar projects at Maithon (234 MW) and Konar Dam (228 MW).
Successful overhauling of 10 thermal generating units, improving reliability and efficiency.
Financial and Management Performance
DVC recorded a revenue of ₹24,629 crore with an impressive collection efficiency of 99%. Efficient fuel management and coal optimisation strategies resulted in savings of ₹374.8 crore.
The Corporation achieved 100% capital expenditure utilisation (₹3,393.80 crore) and significantly exceeded procurement targets through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), with increased participation of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs).
Key digital initiatives included the rollout of SAP S/4 HANA ERP and end-to-end digital billing systems. The organisation’s credit rating was upgraded to A+ / A1, reflecting strong financial health.
Community Engagement and Social Initiatives
DVC actively engaged with communities and stakeholders through multiple initiatives:
1. Organisation of “Pratyay 2025”, HR meets and vigilance awareness workshops such as “STRIVE”
2. Hosting of cultural events including Maithon Mela and Design Fest
3. Improvement in healthcare services through digital hospital management systems
4. Promotion of tourism through infrastructure development, façade lighting, and water sports at dam sites
5. Launch of archery training initiatives in Latehar to promote tribal talent.
DVC has also been recognised nationally, receiving the “Best Performing Transmission Utility” award at Lineman Diwas 2026. An employee of DVC was honoured as Best Lineman of the Year by the Central Electricity Authority.
With a sustained focus on the capacity expansion, digital transformation, renewable energy, and community development, DVC is poised to further consolidate its position as a key driver of India’s power sector and regional economic growth.
