CBI Arrests GST Superintendent and Inspector in a Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent and Inspector of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in a bribery case.

The CBI registered the instant case on 07 April 2026 against the accused Superintendent of GST, Ranipet Range, based on a complaint. It was alleged that the accused Superintendent of GST demanded an undue advantage of Rs. 30,000 from the complainant for facilitating the clearance of GST registration.

 After negotiation, the accused Superintendent agreed to accept abribe of Rs.15,000 from the complainant. It was further alleged that the accused also directed the complainant to deliver a bribe of Rs. 15,000 on 07 April 2026.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused, posted as Superintendent at GST, while demanding Rs. 15,000. During further trap proceedings, the role of the accused Inspector, GST, Ranipet Range, also surfaced. The accused Inspector concealed the trap amount in the toilet commode and flushed it after seeing the trap team. The trap amount was subsequently recovered from the toilet. The aforesaid both accused persons have been arrested.

Further investigation is underway.
