135th birthday of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar celebrated at CSIR Campus

The 135th birthday of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated on 21 April 2026, at CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC) and CSIR Madras Complex (CMC).
The function was inaugurated with the lighting of Kuthuvilakku and floral tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar. Dr. S. Ravivarman, Director, National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Chennai, was the Chief Guest of the function. Shri R.D. Sathish Kumar, Principal Technical Officer, CSIR-SERC welcomed the gathering.
Dr. K. Sathish Kumar, Scientist G, CSIR-SERC, gave the welcome address. In his address, he gave a brief on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and said that his birth anniversary is celebrated with great respect and enthusiasm across the country. Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director, CMC, delivered the presidential address. In her address, she briefed on Babasaheb’s life and career and said that Babasaheb was a visionary leader, profound thinker, educationist and jurist, socio-political reformer and remembered his contributions as the chief architect of the constitution of India, a great leader who worked for a inclusive nation, and a great advocate of women empowerment.
Dr. C. Kumaravelu, Scientist G, CSIR-NEERI unit, introduced the chief guest to the audience.
Dr. Ravivarman, delivered the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Birth Anniversary speech. In his speech, he said that Dr. Ambedkar is one of the most important leaders in Indian history who was committed to social justice and fought for all sections of the society. He said that Babasaheb was a great nationalist, whose nationality was rooted in justice, equality and dignity for all citizens – and inclusive and reformist nationalism. He also mentioned that Babasaheb made significant contributions towards labour rights and social justice, which includes equal pay, maternity benefits, workers welfare fund, provident fund (PF), employees’ state insurance (ESI), etc. He also remembered Babasaheb’s contribution in the formation of Central Water Commission and the great role played by him for the integration of India after British rule.
