Mumbai, 29 April 2026

NTPC Limited and the Government of Maharashtra have signed an addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs), marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s clean and reliable energy infrastructure.

The original MoU, signed on 03 September 2024, envisaged the development of two PSPs—Amba and Kumbhe—with a total capacity of 1800 MW. Based on detailed investigations, optimisation studies, and technical assessments considering topography, reservoir capacity, and project feasibility, the capacities and locations of these projects have now been revised.

As per the addendum, the capacity of the Amba PSP has been enhanced from 800 MW to 1500 MW, while the Kumbhe PSP capacity has been revised from 1000 MW to 1100 MW, thereby significantly augmenting the overall generation potential. These revisions aim to optimise resource utilisation and improve project viability.

The addendum formalises these changes by incorporating the revised project parameters into the original MoU, while all other terms and conditions remain unchanged.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Minister of Revenue Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of Water Resources, Medical Education, and Disaster Management Shri Girish Mahajan, along with other senior officials from the Government of Maharashtra and NTPC, were present on the occasion.

This collaboration between NTPC and the Government of Maharashtra underscores a shared commitment to accelerating clean energy initiatives and strengthening the country’s energy security.
