MDL Delivers Fourth Project-17A Stealth Frigate ‘Mahendragiri’ to Indian Navy

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has delivered the fourth stealth frigate ‘Mahendragiri’ under Project-17A to the Indian Navy on 30 April 2026. The warship will subsequently be commissioned as INS Mahendragiri.
The Acceptance Document was signed by Capt Jagmohan (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, MDL, and Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, VSM, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Eastern Naval Command, in the presence of MDL Directors and senior Indian Navy officers at MDL.
The delivery of Mahendragiri marks a significant milestone, as it is the final ship of the Project-17A class being constructed at MDL, underscoring India’s growing capabilities in indigenous warship design and construction under the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Capt Jagmohan (Retd.), CMD, MDL, said that the delivery represents a proud moment in India’s shipbuilding journey and reflects the collective dedication and synergy of MDL, the Warship Design Bureau, the Warship Overseeing Team (Mumbai), and various arms of the Indian Navy.
He highlighted that Mahendragiri is a state-of-the-art warship equipped with advanced combat capabilities and stands as a strong symbol of India’s indigenous defence manufacturing strength. He expressed confidence that the vessel will serve the nation with distinction while upholding a legacy of innovation, resilience, and self-reliance.
The warship is expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy and contribute to strengthening India’s maritime security architecture.
