NTPC Kudgi, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, inaugurated the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM)–2026, reaffirming its commitment to empowering young girls through education and holistic development.

The programme was inaugurated by Shri Ajay Sharma, ED (Engg.) & Regional Executive Director (Southern Region), in the presence of Shri Madhu. S, Head of Project (Kudgi). Addressing the gathering, Shri Ajay Sharma welcomed all 95 participants, congratulated them on their selection, and encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity. He reiterated NTPC Kudgi’s commitment to fostering education, confidence, and leadership among young girls.

The GEM 2026 workshop, scheduled from 2nd to 29th May 2026, brings together 95 girls selected from 13 Government schools from five nearby villages-Kudgi, Masuti, Golasangi, Telgi and Muttagi. The structured residential programme focuses on academic learning, skill development and personality enhancement through a mix of co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

NTPC Kudgi’s outreach under GEM has expanded significantly-from 45 participants in 2022 to 80 in 2025, and 95 in 2026-reflecting its sustained efforts towards community development and women empowerment. All selected participants have successfully joined the workshop this year. At NTPC Kudgi, the initiative commenced in 2022 and 2026 marks its 5th edition.

NTPC, India’s largest integrated power utility, continues to play a pivotal role not only in power generation but also in social development. In alignment with the Government of India’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative, NTPC launched its flagship CSR programme-Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM)-in 2016 at NTPC Vindhyachal Station. Since then, the initiative has positively impacted over 13,000 girls across the country.

The residential workshop provides a safe, secure and nurturing environment, offering a holistic platform that includes academics, yoga, sports, dance, drama, karate, and cultural activities. The programme aims to instill confidence, discipline and leadership qualities among participants. Through GEM, NTPC continues to empower young girls to realize their potential and emerge as confident individuals and future leaders.
