The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, organized “Manak Manthan” – a Technical Discussion Programme on standards related to Sanitary napkins, Panty liners, Maternity pads, Period panties, Disposable baby diapers and adult incontinence diapers on 14th May 2026 at Coimbatore.

The programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness among manufacturers, Industry stakeholders, testing laboratories, start-ups, MSMEs, academia, NGOs and consumers regarding the latest Indian Standards governing hygiene products and technical textiles for med-tech applications.

The event commenced the inaugural session and an overview of BIS activities delivered by Smt. Divya S, Scientist-D/Joint Director, BIS, Coimbatore. A special technical presentation on hygiene products covered under technical textiles for med-tech applications was delivered by Shri Amitkumar Pandey, Scientist-B/Assistant Director and Member Secretary of the Technical Committee on Technical Textiles for Med-Tech Applications, BIS Headquarters, New Delhi.

During the programme, participants were informed that the products covered under the above-mentioned standards, except IS 17508:2020, are mandated for sale across India only with the ISI Mark, ensuring conformity to quality and safety requirements.

An open house discussion session was also conducted to facilitate interaction between industry representatives and BIS officials on standards implementation, quality requirements, product safety, and certification aspects.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Shri Simesh Kumar, Scientist-C/ Deputy Director, BIS, Coimbatore.

Participants including industry representatives, manufacturers, testing laboratories, academia, entrepreneurs, NGOs and other stakeholders, actively participated in the programme.
