The Nehru Science Centre, a constituent unit of the National Council of Science Museums under the Ministry of Culture, is organizing a vibrant and exciting celebration of International Museum Day 2026 from May 16 to 18, 2026.

The celebration aims to showcase the immense “Power of Museums” in shaping an informed, creative and progressive society. Museums and science centres today are not merely places for preserving objects and artefacts; they are vibrant centres of education, innovation, scientific awareness, cultural understanding and community engagement. They inspire curiosity, encourage lifelong learning and connect people with science, heritage, history and sustainability through interactive and meaningful experiences.

To mark the occasion, the Science Centre will host a series of engaging educational and recreational programmes specially designed for students, teachers, families and visitors of all age groups. The programmes will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to explore science and heritage through hands-on activities, interactive exhibits, fun-filled workshops and immersive learning experiences.

A special attraction of this year’s celebration is the exhibition “My Own Collection”, showcasing rare and fascinating historical objects along with unique personal collections reflecting the richness of India’s cultural and scientific heritage.

Major highlights of the celebration include Online Quiz on Museums, Make & Take Workshop for Young Kids, Heritage Walk – Explore Historical Objects, Sky Gazing Programme, Family Festa – Science Workshops for Families, “Chalte Chalte” Quiz and Drone Soccer Zone.

The celebrations will feature exhibitions, workshops, quizzes, heritage walks, sky observation sessions and family-oriented science activities aimed at nurturing scientific temper, creativity and curiosity among visitors, especially children and youth.

The Science Centre will remain open from 9.30 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. during the celebration period from May 16 to 18, 2026. For the convenience of visitors, Metro train services will also operate up to 11.00 p.m.

Mumbaikars are warmly invited to visit the Science Centre with family and friends and become a part of this inspiring celebration of science, culture, learning and heritage. The event promises an enriching and memorable experience for visitors of all ages.

Members of the press and media fraternity are also invited to cover the celebrations and support the initiative in spreading awareness about the invaluable role museums and science centres play in building an informed, sustainable and scientifically aware society.
