The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Ministry of Ayush have signed an MoU under “BHASHINI Seva Sanchalan - A BHASHINI Sahyogi Program” to strengthen multilingual digital capabilities across the AYUSH ecosystem through the BHASHINI Platform, India’s National Language Digital Public Infrastructure. The collaboration will enable integration of multilingual AI models, translation APIs, voice-enabled technologies, and language tools across AYUSH platforms and services to enhance accessibility and citizen engagement.

The initiative aims to strengthen multilingual governance and service delivery across all 22 Eighth Schedule languages, enabling wider access to AYUSH services and digital platforms nationwide.

Under the collaboration, the Ministry of Ayush and the BHASHINI team will enable multilingual support through initiatives including BHASHINI Udyat, Mitra, Appmitra, and Pravakta, alongside translation API integration, AYUSH-specific AI language models, multilingual glossaries, and dataset enrichment under Bhashadaan.

The BHASHINI team also showcased multilingual AI use cases including AI-enabled prescription generation, voice-based CV creation for blue-collar workers, real-time transcription through Shrutlekh, and language technologies supporting preservation of India’s ancient manuscript heritage under the vision of a National Digital Repository of Knowledge.

The discussions further highlighted the importance of strengthening Indian language AI models and contextual healthcare communication across systems such as Ayurveda and Unani.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, said, “Ayush systems of medicine carry immense civilisational knowledge and cultural depth. Ensuring that this knowledge becomes accessible in every Indian language is essential for inclusive healthcare delivery and public outreach. Through this collaboration with BHASHINI, we aim to strengthen multilingual capabilities across the Ayush ecosystem, develop robust domain-specific terminologies, and build future-ready AI systems that can support citizens seamlessly across linguistic boundaries.”

Underscoring the transformative potential of multilingual AI in healthcare delivery, Dr Kavita Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, said, “Today’s MoU with BHASHINI marks a transformative step for the Ministry of Ayush and the broader healthcare ecosystem of the country. We have long envisioned the use of advanced multilingual technologies within Ayush Grid and our digital health platforms. The demonstrations showcased by BHASHINI, especially AI-enabled doctor-patient interactions generating prescriptions in Indian languages, reflect the immense potential of language AI in strengthening healthcare accessibility at the last mile. We see this collaboration as a major national milestone towards inclusive, technology-driven healthcare delivery.”

Speaking on the collaboration, Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India BHASHINI Division, stated, “The future of inclusive digital governance depends on building systems that understand and communicate in the language of every citizen. Through this collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, we aim to strengthen multilingual healthcare access, develop domain-specific terminologies, enrich language models, and enable AI-powered solutions that can support citizens seamlessly across India’s diverse linguistic landscape.”

Ayush Grid OSD, Naman Goyal, stated that the Yoga Portal and the master portal of Ayush Grid, called MAISP, had already integrated a version of the Bhashini translation plugin and received encouraging feedback and wider reach from users across the country in their local languages. Following this MoU, all portals under the Ayush Grid ecosystem will be onboarded onto Bhashini, enabling Ayush services to reach every part of the country by transcending language barriers.

The collaboration will also promote multilingual AI adoption across AYUSH institutions through language data contributions, awareness initiatives, and integration of language technologies into public-facing platforms.

The MoU further strengthens BHASHINI’s role as India’s population-scale language infrastructure for inclusive and accessible AI-driven governance and healthcare delivery.

Established in 2014, the Ministry of Ayush is responsible for promoting India’s traditional systems of medicine including Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy.
