The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, organized a BIS Awareness Meet for Cast Iron Foundries and Related Industries falling under MSME category at COINDIA Auditorium, Coimbatore, on 20 May 2026.

The programme commenced with the welcome address and presentation of programme objectives by Shri Vinith Kumar G, Scientist-E/Director, BIS Coimbatore. An overview of the role and activities of BIS was presented by Shri Arivazhagan A, Scientist-D/Joint Director, BIS Coimbatore.

During the technical session, detailed information was provided on Indian Standards related to cast iron products, applicable QCOS, BIS Product Certification Scheme, procedures for obtaining BIS licence, online application process and implementation requirements for manufacturers. Special emphasis was given to concessions and relaxations available for MSMEs in certification fees and in-house testing requirements based on their scale of operation.

The programme also featured an interactive open house discussion wherein participants raised various practical difficulties, implementation-related concerns and queries pertaining to standards, testing methods and licensing procedures. Officials from BIS clarified the doubts and encouraged industries to actively engage with BIS for smooth implementation and compliance with quality standards.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Shri Sabari Nadh U, Senior Secretariat Assistant, BIS, Coimbatore.

The awareness meet witnessed active participation of more than 50 participants from MSME cast iron foundries and related industries and served as a useful platform for interaction between BIS officials and industry stakeholders to promote quality compliance and standardization in the sector.
