Union Minister Shri. Suresh Gopi reviews Key Oil & Gas Pipeline Projects in Tamil Nadu

Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism Shri. Suresh Gopi reviewed the progress and pending issues related to two major pipeline projects of national importance in the State of Tamil Nadu at a meeting held in Coimbatore yesterday.
The projects reviewed included:
(A) Kochi–Koottanad–Bangalore–Mangalore Natural Gas Pipeline project of GAIL involves a revised project cost of about ₹5,909 crore with physical progress of around 96.6%
(B) Irugur–Devanagonthi Multi Product Pipeline project of BPCL involves a revised project cost of about ₹1,732 crore with physical progress of around 82.6%.
(C) CGD Project of BPCL for Erode and Nilgiris districts involves a project cost of ₹3685 crore with physical progress of around 44.6%.
District Collector Tirupur, Officials from Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO), Government of Tamil Nadu, senior officials from National Highways Authority of India, State Highways, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), officials from the district administration and other stakeholders participated in the meeting.
During the review meeting, detailed discussions were held on the current status of the ongoing projects. The major critical issue concerning the laying of a 64 km pipeline within the existing RoU in Tirupur District, related to BPCL’s Irugur–Devangunthi Pipeline (IDPL) project, was deliberated upon. Issues pertaining to pipeline laying along the Jalakandapuram Bypass Road under State Highways and along NH-844 were also discussed. Also, matters relating to the handing over of land for the new pumping station under the IDPL project were reviewed, and the way forward for expeditious resolution was deliberated.
Further, the Minister reviewed the progress of the CGD project GAS in Erode and Nilgiris districts. During the review, BPCL requested approval from Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project (TNRSP) for laying a steel pipeline from Erode City to Gobichettipalayam and sought allotment of Government land for establishing LCNG/DRS/DCU stations in Erode and Nilgiris districts.
GAIL presented the status of its ongoing project works and informed that no major issues requiring intervention from the State Government are presently pending.
Sh. Suresh Gopi emphasised expeditious resolution of the bottlenecks to facilitate the timely completion of these strategically important energy infrastructure projects.
The District Collector Tirupur and TIDCO representing State Govt has assured to resolve the pipeline laying works in Tirupur district. The State Government and district authorities assured full cooperation for the resolution of pending issues and facilitation of project implementation. The Minister directed all stakeholders to maintain close coordination and take proactive steps for early resolution of bottlenecks.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment from all stakeholders towards the timely completion of the projects in the public and national interest.
