UIDAI Participates in World Bicycle Day Event in Guwahati; Promotes Fitness and Aadhaar Mandatory Biometric Updates for Children

Posted On: 07 JUN 2026 3:01PM by PIB Guwahati

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office Guwahati, participated in the World Bicycle Day under the theme "Ride Together, Stay Fit, Inspire Change" held in Guwahati today, promoting health, wellness and citizen-centric governance.

Representatives from UIDAI actively participated in the event and interacted with attendees to raise awareness about Aadhaar services and the importance of keeping Aadhaar details updated for seamless access to various government and welfare services.

During the programme, participants were informed about the importance of Mandatory Biometric Update in Aadhaar. If the Mandatory Biometric Update is not completed between the ages of 5–7 years and 15–17 years, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated as per existing rules.

An updated Aadhaar may help in availing services such as school admissions, registering for entrance examinations, availing benefits of scholarships, DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) schemes, APPAR ID etc wherever applicable otherwise later it may lead to difficulties while carrying out Aadhaar based authentication for receiving benefits.

Officials also pointed out that many students and parents often seek Aadhaar updates at the last moment, leading to unnecessary anxiety and delays. Such situations can be avoided through timely completion of the Mandatory Biometric Update.

As part of the biometric update process, the child's photograph, all ten fingerprints, and both iris scans are captured and updated in the Aadhaar database. UIDAI informed participants that the Mandatory Biometric Update is being provided free of cost for children between the ages of 5 and 17 years up to 30 September 2026.
