The Office of the Accountant General (AG), Gangtok, on Friday, June 5, 2026, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with a series of environmental conservation activities, reaffirming its commitment to promoting a greener and cleaner environment.

As part of the celebrations, a tree plantation drive was organized within and around the quarter premises. The programme was led by the Accountant General, Senior Deputy Accountant General (Audit), and Senior Deputy Accountant General (A&E), who planted saplings along with officers and staff members of the office.

A total of 300 saplings were planted during the drive. The plantation included a variety of species such as mango, guava, pine, cherry, bougainvillea, and other flowering plants, aimed at enhancing the green cover and contributing to environmental sustainability.

In addition to the plantation drive, a cleanliness drive was also organized, during which officers and staff participated enthusiastically in cleaning the office premises and surrounding areas. The initiative highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness and fostering environmental responsibility among all stakeholders.

The AG Office, Gangtok, has been observing World Environment Day through plantation and awareness activities for the past five years, demonstrating its continued dedication to environmental protection and ecological balance.

The celebration served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the environment and encouraged participants to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.
