Regional Training Conference for NSS 81st Round Socio-Economic Survey for Migration Particulars of Household Survey

The National Statistics Office (NSO) under Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Regional Office, Chennai organised a Regional Training Conference (RTC) for the NSS 81st Round of Socio-Economic aspects for Migration Particulars of Household Survey at A Wing, 5th Floor Conference Hall, Shastri Bhawan, Nungambakkam-Chennai from 10th June to 11th June, 2026.

  

At the onset, Dr. Chandrasekar K, Joint Director NSO (FOD), Regional Office, Chennai welcomed the participants of the RTC. Shri. Manohar R, Deputy Director General, NSO, Regional office, Chennai delivered the inaugural address highlighting the importance of the Survey being conducted exclusively for collecting the detailed information on migration particulars of household members, as well as in and out -migrants of households on all India basis barring some inaccessible areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The survey period will be from July, 2026 to June, 2027. Further, he emphasized the pivotal role of surveys in evidence-based policy making and also highlighted the need of high-quality and real-time data. He urged the participants to ensure rigorous standards in data collection and compilation. Above all he stressed the importance of proactive interaction with State authorities to facilitate the seamless implementation of surveys.

Mr K Jaishankar, Regional Joint Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES) Tamil Nadu & his team and officials from Govt. of Puducherry graced the occasion. In the keynote address of Mr.  K Jaishankar, he assured cooperation and effective participation in all the NSS surveys in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Assistant Directors from Chennai, Sub Regional Office Vellore and Cuddalore along with all the nominated field officials participated in the Conference.

Scope of the Migration Particulars Survey

This survey will be capturing vital information about the Outmigrants, Short Term migration for employment and other migration particulars. The Survey will be conducted on the basis of Usual place of Residence (UPR) and core household concept for determining the Migration particulars of the household. The pattern of Migration and reason for migration at any period of time will be captured, it will provide valuable insights for the formulation of National level policies considering the Migration of households.

The General Public is requested to extend their fullest co-operation for NSS Surveys by providing relevant, valuable and factual information to the visiting field officials of NSO (FOD), and there by contribute their might towards the Nation Building Process.
