As part of its commitment towards promoting cleanliness, public welfare and citizen-centric initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), Mumbai Zonal Unit (MZU), provided a Water Filter with hot, cold and ambient water facility and an ABS Automatic Hand Sanitizer Spray Dispenser to the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) Wellness Centre, Ambarnath today.
The CGHS Wellness Centre, Ambarnath, is among the busiest centres in the Mumbai region and serves more than 500 beneficiaries daily, including a large number of pensioners and senior citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sumit Kumar reiterated the Directorate's commitment towards public welfare initiatives and strengthening inter-departmental collaboration for improving citizen services. He emphasized that Swachh Bharat is not merely a cleanliness campaign but a collective commitment towards creating healthier, cleaner and more citizen-friendly public institutions.
Inaugurating the facilities, Shri Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General, DGTS, Mumbai Zonal Unit, appreciated the remarkable transformation of the Wellness Centre. Established in 2011 in a dilapidated former Ordnance primary school building, the Centre had faced severe infrastructural challenges and was nearing closure. However, under the leadership of Dr. Nirmal Mandal, CMO In-charge, and with the support of the Pensioners' Association, the Centre was successfully revived and renovated in 2017.
During an official visit to the Wellness Centre on 26 January 2026, Shri Sumit Kumar observed the large daily footfall and identified the need for improved drinking water and sanitation facilities for beneficiaries. Subsequently, DGTS, MZU undertook the initiative to provide the Water Filter and Automatic Hand Sanitizer Spray Dispenser to enhance patient amenities and promote public welfare.
The newly installed Water Filter has been placed in the front corridor of the Wellness Centre and provides hot, cold and normal drinking water. The facility is expected to significantly improve convenience and comfort for patients and attendants visiting the Centre. The Hand Sanitizer Spray Dispenser has also been installed to promote hygiene and infection control practices.
The inauguration programme commenced with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and environmental sustainability efforts, Shri Sumit Kumar also planted a sapling within the Wellness Centre premises.
A felicitation ceremony was subsequently organised, during which Shri Sumit Kumar was welcomed by the CGHS Wellness Centre and the All India Pensioners Association, Ambarnath Branch. The gathering was addressed by Dr. Nirmal Mandal, CMO, CGHS Wellness Centre; Shri Venugopalan Nair, President, All India Pensioners Association, Ambarnath Branch; and Shri Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General, DGTS, MZU.
Representatives of the CGHS Wellness Centre, members of the Pensioners' Association, beneficiaries and medical staff expressed their appreciation for the support extended by DGTS, MZU and noted that the facilities would greatly benefit the large number of pensioners, senior citizens and patients visiting the Centre every day.
DGTS, MZU continues to undertake taxpayer outreach, awareness and social welfare initiatives aimed at promoting public service, stakeholder engagement and community development, reflecting its broader commitment towards nation-building and citizen welfare beyond its core mandate of taxpayer education and facilitation.
