Yoga Takes Centre Stage in Delhi with IDY 2026 Celebrations Across 40 Locations

As the nation prepares to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 on June 21, the Ministry of Ayush has invited citizens from across the country to participate in large numbers and become part of this historic celebration of health, harmony and India’s timeless yoga tradition.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav said, “The main event of International Day of Yoga 2026 will be held on June 21 at the historic Red Road in Kolkata under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. On this occasion, the entire nation will come together to practise the Common Yoga Protocol and share India’s message of yoga with the world.”

Appealing to citizens for wider participation, Shri Jadhav further highlighted, “This year, the Ministry of Culture is also organising special IDY 2026 celebrations at 100 iconic locations across the country, bringing together India’s rich cultural heritage, historic landmarks and the timeless tradition of yoga. I urge everyone to be a part of this historic occasion and contribute with enthusiasm and participation to make International Day of Yoga 2026 a memorable and successful celebration.”

This year, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under the Ministry of Culture, is organising IDY 2026 celebrations at 100 iconic locations across India, highlighting the unique connection between India’s rich civilisational heritage, historic monuments and the ancient tradition of yoga.

The celebrations will be held across 23 States and Union Territories, including:

  • Andhra Pradesh: Lepakshi, Gandikota, Tirupati and Amaravati
  • Assam: Charaideo, Golpara and Sivasagar
  • Bihar: Nalanda, Vikramshila and Muzaffarpur
  • Chhattisgarh: Sirpur
  • Dadra Nagar Haveli & Daman & Diu: Daman
  • Delhi: Humayun’s Tomb, Purana Qila, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Jantar Mantar and Safdarjung Tomb
  • Gujarat: Champaner, Rani ki Vav, Dholavira, Ahmedabad and Modhera
  • Goa: Old Goa
  • Haryana: Hansi
  • Himachal Pradesh: Kangra
  • Jammu & Kashmir/Ladakh: Ramnagar, Srinagar, Leh and Avantipura
  • Karnataka: Aihole, Badami, Bijapur, Halebidu, Hampi, Pattadakal, Bengaluru and Srirangapatna
  • Kerala: Bekal
  • Madhya Pradesh: Amarkantak, Bhimbetka, Bhopal, Chanderi, Khajuraho, Sanchi and Mandu
  • Maharashtra: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Elephanta, Mumbai, Pune, Junnar and Nagpur among others
  • Odisha: Bhubaneswar, Mayurbhanj and Konark among others
  • Punjab: Amritsar, Batala and Bhatinda
  • Rajasthan: Chittorgarh, Kumbhalgarh, Amber, Ajmer, Abhaneri and Deeg
  • Tamil Nadu: Vellore, Gingee, Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur and Adhichhanallur
  • Telangana: Hyderabad and Warangal among others
  • Tripura: Unakoti
  • Uttar Pradesh: Lucknow, Ayodhya, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kalinjar, Mahoba, Hastinapur, Meerut, Sarnath, Prayagraj and Kushinagar
  • Uttarakhand: Jageshwar, Hanol Tiuni, Gopeshwar Gunth and Almora
  • West Bengal: Cooch Behar, Murshidabad, Kolkata, Bishnupur and Kalna

Taking yoga closer to citizens, special IDY celebrations are also being organised across Delhi at prominent public locations. People can participate in yoga sessions at designated venues across the National Capital Region, including major parks, sports complexes, heritage sites and community spaces including:
