Nagpur, 26 June 2026

The National Statistical Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, will celebrate the 20th Statistics Day on 29 June 2026 in Nagpur to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned statistician Prof. (Late) Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, whose contributions played a pivotal role in India's statistical development and economic planning.

The programme is being jointly organised by the NSO's Zonal Office (Coordination & Quality Control Division), Regional Office (Field Operations Division) and Household Survey Unit, Nagpur. The event will be held at 10:00 AM at the Training Hall, Indian Bureau of Mines, Indira Bhavan, Civil Lines, Nagpur.

This year's theme, "Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data," highlights the growing importance of administrative data in evidence-based policymaking and governance.

The programme will be chaired by Shri Srinivas Uppala, Deputy Director General, NSO, Nagpur, while Dr. Aparna Samudra, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, will attend as the Chief Guest.

Poster, slogan, speech, quiz, crossword and word-search competitions, along with a special lecture on the importance of statistics, will be organised to create awareness among students and the public about the role of statistics in national development.
