Department of Telecommunications achieved significant milestones in strengthening telecom compliance and consumer protection

Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Tamil Nadu LSA, has achieved significant milestones in strengthening telecom compliance and consumer protection.

During June 2026, nearly 327 BTS audits and 28,000 Customer Acquisition Form (CAF) audits were conducted. Since April 2026, over 90,000 CAF audits and 1511 BTS/EMR audits have been carried out, with corrective actions initiated wherever deviations were observed.

Several special audits were also undertaken by DoT, Tamilnadu LSA.

1.       Analysis of eKYC discrepancies.

2.       2587 reported SIMs linked to the misuse of mobile connections activated from Ludhiana, Punjab, in cybercrime and financial fraud cases,

3.       Analysis of mobile connections disconnected based on instructions received from State/UT Police through the Cyber Police Portal.

4.       Analysis of 1559 Mobile Number Portability (MNP) cases involving mobile numbers flagged for re-verification.

5.       CAF analysis of 165 SIP/PRI connections appearing in the NCRP and Chakshu databases.

Under the Sanchar Saathi initiative, 18.07 lakh requests were received through the Know Your Mobile Connections (KYMC) module, resulting in the disconnection of 12.7 lakh unauthorized mobile connections. Through the CHAKSHU module, citizens reported suspected fraudulent and spam communications, enabling coordinated action with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).

Since April 2026, approximately 0.84 lakh mobile connections involved in financial fraud, unsolicited commercial communications, or harassment were disconnected following re-verification. Nearly 1.2 lakh mobile connections were disconnected due to mismatches in Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA). Furthermore, around 2.12 lakh mobile connections were disconnected after due re-verification under the category of individuals possessing more than the prescribed limit of nine mobile connections. To enhance public awareness, DoT–Tamil Nadu LSA conducting many awareness programmes. Since April 2026, a total of eight awareness programmes on EMF awareness, cybersecurity, and the Sanchar Saathi initiative have been organized across educational institutions. Informational pamphlets were distributed to students and Points of Sale (PoS) to promote telecom safety, cyber hygiene, and the responsible use of telecom services.
