BIS Nagpur Conducts Search and Seizure Operation Against Badewale Metals for Violation of the Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and Sections of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a search and seizure operation on 15 June 2026 at the premises of Badewale Metals, located at Jagnath Budhwari Road, Nagpur, District Nagpur, Maharashtra - 440002, following the receipt of a complaint regarding the alleged misuse of the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark).

The operation was conducted in connection with the alleged contravention of the provisions of the Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order, 2020 [S.O. 294(E) dated 21 January 2020 and subsequent amendments vide S.O. 2019(E) dated 23 June 2020], read with sub-sections (1) and (3) of Section 17 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

During the raid, 09 domestic pressure cookers without the ISI Mark were found, comprising 02 pressure cookers of the brand "Apollo" and one pressure cooker each of the brands "Butterfly", "Madona", "Master", "Yuvraj", "Crown", "Marlex", and "Lion Gold".
In addition, 02 pressure cookers of the brand "Alfamatic" were found bearing a spurious ISI Mark without the IS Number and CM/L Number.

Thus, a total of 11 domestic pressure cookers were found in the shop in contravention of the provisions of the Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The non-conforming products were seized by BIS as evidence for further investigation and legal action.
BIS remains committed to safeguarding consumer interests and preserving the credibility and integrity of the national certification system. Consumers are advised to verify the authenticity and validity of BIS licences through the BIS Care App or the BIS website before purchasing products covered under mandatory BIS certification.
Further action against the Shop is being initiated in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
