The Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in Thavanur, under the Regional Passport Office (RPO) Kozhikode, was inaugurated today at the Sub Post Office, Thavanur in Malappuram. This is the third POPSK under RPO Kozhikode. With the opening of the POPSK at Thavanur, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) achieves the milestone of opening at least one PSK or POPSK in each Lok Sabha Constituency of Kerala.

 

 

Sh. Suresh Gopi, Hon'ble Minister of State for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ministry of Tourism inaugurated the facility in the august presence of Dr. M. P. Abdussamad Samadani, Hon'ble MP, Ponnani Lok Sabha Constituency, Hon'ble MLAs from Thavanur, Kottakal and Ponnani constituency, along with other dignitaries and senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts.

 

 

This initiative aims to enhance passport and related services to residents of Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency and its neighboring areas, cutting down travel and wait time significantly. As a result, residents of Ponnani region no longer have to travel long distances to nearby districts for passport services.

 

 

Initially, POPSK Thavanur will serve 50 applicants daily, with plans to increase capacity to 100 applications per day. To book an appointment at the POPSK Thavanur, applicants can visit the official Passport Seva website at (www.passportindia.gov.in) or download the Passport Seva Mobile app from Android and iOS application stores.

 

 

Addressing the gathering, Sh. Suresh Gopi, Hon'ble Minister of State for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ministry of Tourism said that the inauguration and operationalisation of new Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) are part of the Passport Seva Programme expansion envisaged under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Hon'ble External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The initiative aims to enhance the accessibility and delivery of passport services to citizens across the country.

 

Dr. Binoy George, IFS, Joint Secretary, MEA stated that the opening of POPSK Thavanur underscores the commitment of Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to citizen-centric governance, bringing passport services closer to the people. He expressed gratitude to Department of Posts and all other stakeholders for their efforts in making this facility a reality.
