The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur inaugurated its 12th MBA Batch (2026–28) and 6th PhD Batch (2026–30), welcoming a diverse group of students from across the country. The new academic session reflects the growing diversity and changing landscape of management education in India, with women constituting the majority in both programmes.

The flagship MBA programme has admitted 341 students, including 177 women (52 per cent) and 164 men (48 per cent). In the PhD programme, six of the seven newly admitted scholars are women. Students from non-engineering backgrounds outnumber engineers in the MBA batch, indicating an increasing preference for multidisciplinary talent in management education.

The incoming students represent 23 states, with Maharashtra contributing the highest number, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Delhi. Students from North-Eastern states, including Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, have also joined the institute. The average age of the MBA cohort is 23 years, while nearly 40 per cent of the students bring prior work experience.
Speaking on this occassion Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, encouraged students to develop the knowledge, values and leadership qualities needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
