Press Information Bureau (PIB), Aizawl, under the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, today organised One Day workshop ‘Vartalap’ on “12 Years of Governance on Employment Generation and Economic Reforms under GST.” The programme was attended by journalists and community leaders.

Chief Guest of the programme Mizoram State Taxation Commissioner Pu H.K. Lalhawngliana on Monday said India has made significant progress across various sectors under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that the country’s economic growth has been a major driver of its overall development.

State Taxation Department Commissioner Pu HK Lalhawngliana said the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a key pillar in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation under the Vikshit Bharat vision by 2047. GST growth key driver of India’s development : Mizoram Tax Commissioner

He said the steady rise in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections is not merely a statistical achievement but a crucial pillar underpinning the nation’s economic progress. India, which once faced persistent challenges in generating employment, has now emerged as a provider of jobs, he added. Pu Lalhawngliana said the progress made under the GST regime is an important component of India’s aspiration to become a developed nation, and stressed that Mizoram must also make every possible effort to contribute to this national objective.

He said the Centre’s decision to streamline the GST structure was aimed at improving tax compliance. While both Mizoram and the rest of the country may witness a temporary decline in GST collections following the reforms, the Union government would absorb the impact and compensate states for any revenue loss arising from the rationalisation of tax rates, he added.

Addressing the gathering as the guest of honour, Pu L.R. Sailo said the media sector had witnessed significant growth under the Central government’s initiatives, with advances in technology making news more accessible to the public. He said the media in Mizoram had also made considerable progress, enabling people to access accurate and credible information. Describing the media as an important pillar in the development of society, Pu L.R Sailo urged journalists to discharge their duties with professionalism, integrity and impartiality.

He also said several developmental initiatives had been undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that Mizoram had also benefited from various schemes and programmes of the Centre.

Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Assistant Director J. Zodinpuii highlighted various welfare initiatives undertaken by the Central government, saying the government remains committed to ensuring that the benefits of its schemes reach the people.

The programme, organised under the theme “12 Years of Governance on Employment Generation and Economic Reforms under GST”, featured expert sessions by officials from the State Taxation Department and KVIC providing participants with information on various government initiatives and economic reforms.
