Posted On:
21 JUL 2026 2:19PM by PIB Delhi
Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India is implementing Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha BimaYojana (PMSBY) under Handloom Weavers’ Welfare, a component of National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) to provide insurance coverage to eligible handloom weavers/workers across the country including Andhra Pradesh. Insurance coverage is provided on an annual policy basis (1st June to 31st May). Since 2021-22 onwards, these scheme components are being implemented through States/UTs Govt. Targets are fixed on the basis of indicative number of eligible handloom weavers/workers given by States/UTs and funds are released accordingly.
State-wise number of handloom weavers/workers enrolled and targets fixed under PMJJBY and PMSBY from the policy years 2021-22 to 2025-26 is given at below respectively. Further, State-wise funds released from FY 2021-2022 to 2025-2026 are given at below.
Ministry of Textiles regularly coordinates with the States/UTs Govt., in close coordination with Weavers Service Centres (WSCs) i.e. field offices of the Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms) to create awareness about the insurance schemes by conducting awareness camps/chaupals across the country including Andhra Pradesh. Further, the services of Handloom Helpline Centre are also being utilized for disseminating information about handloom schemes including insurance schemes amongst handloom weavers/workers across the country including Andhra Pradesh.
Before the schemes are continued/new schemes are formulated, the impact of the existing schemes is evaluated. Evaluation study of the Handloom Weavers' Welfare Scheme including insurance schemes (PMJJBY & PMSBY) was conducted by independent agency covering beneficiaries across the country including Andhra Pradesh. The study examined the effectiveness of the scheme and made recommendations for its further improvement.
