Income Tax Department, Mumbai celebrates 167th Income Tax Day in Mumbai


Maharashtra Governor Shri Jishnu Dev Varma Leads 167th Income Tax Day Celebrations; Shri Vicky Kaushal Attends as Special Guest

The Income Tax Department, Mumbai, celebrated the 167th Income Tax Day at Kautilya Bhawan, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai today. The Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while noted actor Shri Vicky Kaushal attended the event as the Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma congratulated the Income Tax Department for its significant contribution to nation-building and commended its vital role in mobilising resources for India's growth and development. He appreciated the Department's efforts in leveraging technology, enhancing taxpayer services and strengthening the country's fiscal foundation.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Alok Kumar, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai, highlighted the Department's transformation into a modern, technology-driven and taxpayer-centric organisation. He said the Department is focused on providing seamless taxpayer services through digital initiatives such as pre-filled income tax returns, AI and machine learning-based risk assessment, faceless services and faster processing of returns and refunds.

He said direct taxes have emerged as the backbone of India's development by supporting infrastructure creation, national security and social welfare programmes. Referring to Kautilya's principle that revenue should be collected "like a bee collects honey from flowers without disturbing them", Shri Alok Kumar reiterated the Department's commitment to the philosophy of "Transparent Taxation: Honouring the Honest" and to building greater trust with taxpayers while promoting voluntary compliance.

Shri Vicky Kaushal appreciated the Department's citizen-centric approach and said that after understanding the significance of Advance Tax in nation-building, he would feel even more satisfied while paying his Advance Tax, knowing that it contributes directly to the advancement of the nation.

Senior officers of the Department, taxpayers, members of the media, and officers and staff of the Income Tax Department were present on the occasion.The celebration reaffirmed the Income Tax Department's commitment to serving taxpayers with integrity, transparency and efficiency while contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
