Hon'ble Minister of State for Railways & Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, inaugurates Road Under Bridge in lieu of Level Crossing Gate No. 16 at Ramohalli Gate, Bengaluru

Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, along with Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment; Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, inaugurated the newly constructed Road Under Bridge (RUB) in lieu of Level Crossing Gate No. 16 at Ramohalli Gate, Bengaluru, today.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon'ble Minister, Shri V. Somanna said that the long-pending demand for a RUB at Ramohalli Gate has been fulfilled and that the new RUB considerably improves connectivity to many important places around Bengaluru. The Minister said that Indian Railways is giving top priority to eliminating level crossing gates across the country as part of its efforts to improve safety and support the nation's overall development.

The Railway Ministry is upgrading 61 railway stations in Karnataka with facilities like escalators, lifts, foot over bridges and other passenger-friendly amenities, especially for senior citizens and differently abled people. Shri Somanna said that, to expedite railway infrastructure development, the Ministry of Railways has taken up Road Over Bridge (ROB) and Road Under Bridge (RUB) projects by bearing the entire cost instead of sharing it with the State Government.

He said that the redevelopment of Bengaluru Cantonment and Yesvantpur stations is also being given high priority to provide better facilities for passengers. Shri Somanna further said that long-pending railway line projects such as Gadag–Wadi, Tumakuru–Rayadurga, and Marikuppam–Kuppam are being expedited. He added that the Bengaluru–Kolar direct railway line is also in the pipeline. Built at a cost of ₹8.84 crore, the Road Under Bridge will enhance safety for both road users and train operations. It also reduces travel time and provides better road connectivity. The Road Under Bridge ensures smooth and safe movement of vehicles by eliminating delays and traffic congestion at the level crossing gate.
Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, Hon'ble Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, appreciated the Railway officials and staff for completing the Road Under Bridge (RUB) ahead of schedule, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the local people. She said the Road Under Bridge will improve safety, reduce travel time and provide better connectivity for thousands of commuters. She added that the Union Government is also developing dedicated freight railway lines to reduce transit time, improve efficiency and enhance the capacity of the railway network.

Shri T.N. Javarayi Gowda, Hon'ble Member of the Legislative Council; Shri Praveen Kataraki, Additional Divisional Railway Manager; Shri Raveendra Bhat, Executive Editor, Prajavani and others were present on the occasion.
