Goa's convention and business tourism sector received a major boost with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) inaugurating the Urja Bharat Convention Centre (UBCC) at its Advanced Training Institute (ATI), Canaguinim.
With seating capacity for over 4,000 delegates, the integrated facility is the largest convention centre in the State and is expected to attract national and international conferences, exhibitions, corporate conventions and government events to Goa throughout the year.
The convention centre was unveiled during a two-day Grand MICE Showcase organised by ONGC on July 18 and 19, marking the Corporation's entry into India's rapidly expanding Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
The event brought together senior ONGC officials, representatives of the Goa Government, tourism stakeholders, hospitality industry leaders, exhibition organisers, event management companies and corporate representatives from across the country.
The launch comes on the back of ONGC's successful hosting of India Energy Week, with the Corporation now expanding its role in creating world-class convention infrastructure that supports both business tourism and regional economic growth.
A key highlight of the inaugural programme was the unveiling of the Urja Bharat brand identity and logo, symbolising ONGC's vision of developing a premier convention destination in Goa.
The second day of the showcase featured knowledge sessions on strengthening Goa's position in the MICE sector. The Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA) discussed the need for closer collaboration among industry, government and infrastructure providers to develop Goa into a leading exhibition hub.
Another session, jointly organised by the India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) and Goa Tourism, explored strategies to market Goa as India's preferred destination for conferences and conventions by leveraging its excellent air connectivity, hospitality network, tourism infrastructure and unique visitor experiences.
Delegates were also taken on a guided tour of the integrated campus, which houses a state-of-the-art convention hall, exhibition space, executive accommodation, management development facilities and waterfront infrastructure. The campus has been designed to host large-scale conventions, trade exhibitions, training programmes, corporate meetings and international business events under one roof.
Tourism and hospitality stakeholders welcomed the initiative, noting that the new facility would help diversify Goa's tourism economy by attracting business travellers beyond the traditional holiday season. The project is also expected to generate fresh opportunities for hotels, transport operators, event organisers and allied service providers.
With the commissioning of the Urja Bharat Convention Centre, ONGC has added a landmark piece of infrastructure to Goa, reinforcing the State's growing reputation as a destination that combines leisure with world-class business and convention facilities.
