BIS organized Awareness Session for MSMEs at TEXPO 2026 B2B Exhibition

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Chennai Branch Office, in collaboration with the Thirumudivakkam Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (TIEMA), organized a BIS Awareness Session for MSMEs on 16 July 2026 at TEXPO 2026 B2B Exhibition, Thirumudivakkam, Chennai. The session witnessed the participation of around 130 MSMEs representing diverse sectors, including Automotive, Electrical & Electronics, Textile & Leather, Medical Equipment, Equipment Manufacturing, Tool & Die Making, Injection Moulding, Die Casting, Metal Fabrication, Machine Tools, Surface Coating, and Machined Components.
The session was organized to create awareness among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) about Indian Standards, the benefits of obtaining a BIS licence, Quality Control Orders (QCOs), BIS conformity assessment schemes, BIS Management System Certification, and the various relaxations and concessions provide by BIS for MSMEs. Through such initiatives, BIS continues to promote standardization, product quality, consumer safety, and the growth of domestic industries, particularly MSMEs.
The awareness session was delivered by Shri Pakki Balu, Scientist-C / Deputy Director, BIS Chennai Branch Office, who explained the role of BIS in standardization, conformity assessment, and quality assurance. He highlighted various BIS certification schemes, Quality Control Orders, and the benefits of compliance for MSMEs. He also elaborated on the concessions available under BIS certification schemes, including annual minimum marking fee concessions of 80% for micro and startup enterprises, 50% for small enterprises, 20% for medium enterprises, and an additional 10% concession for women entrepreneur-led enterprises. He highlighted various initiatives undertaken by BIS to support startups and MSMEs through simplified certification procedures, technical guidance, and awareness programmes. He emphasized that early adoption of Indian Standards helps improve product quality, safety, and market competitiveness while facilitating easier access to domestic and global markets.
Shri Rajagopala Rao, Scientist-D (NDT), National Test House (Southern Region), also addressed the participants and explained the testing and technical support available to MSMEs through the National Test House. He encouraged MSMEs to utilize the testing and quality evaluation services offered by NTH to strengthen product quality, ensure compliance with applicable standards, and enhance market competitiveness.
The session concluded with active participation from MSMEs, reinforcing the importance of Indian Standards, quality assurance, and conformity assessment in enhancing product quality, consumer confidence, and market competitiveness.
