Weavers' Service Centre, Nagpur to Celebrate 12th National Handloom Day on August 7

The Weavers' Service Centre (WSC), Nagpur, under the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, will celebrate the 12th National Handloom Day on 7 August 2026 from 10:30 AM onwards at the Common Workshed of Dhapewada Textile Udyog Producer Company Ltd., Mauja Varoda, near Dhapewada–Kalmeshwar National Highway, Kalmeshwar, Nagpur.

National Handloom Day is observed every year on 7 August to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, which promoted the use of indigenous products and the spirit of self-reliance. 

The programme is expected to be attended by Shri Rajeev Bhaskarrao Potdar, Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Shri Sudhir Dive, Former Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Director, Dhapewada Textile Udyog Producer Company Ltd., Smt. Nidhi Gandhi, Proprietor, Gandhi Handloom, Nagpur, and Smt. Rajshree Bapat, Director, Dhapewada Textile Udyog Producer Company Ltd. Officers from the Weavers' Service Centre, including Shri Sandeep P. Thubrikar, Deputy Director (Weaving) and Shri M. V. Paunikar, Assistant Director (Weaving), will also be present.

More than 300 handloom weavers, representatives of producer organisations, educational institutions, local bodies and other stakeholders are expected to participate in the celebration.

The programme will feature awareness sessions on key Government initiatives for the handloom sector, including Hathkargha Samvardhan Sahayata, Common Workshed Scheme, Design Development, Cluster Development, Marketing Initiatives, Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana, India Handloom Brand and other support services available to weavers.

An exhibition of handloom products, traditional textiles, design samples and promotional material showcasing India's rich handloom heritage will also be organised. A live demonstration of the traditional Karvat Kathi weaving technique will be one of the highlights of the event.

Outstanding weavers and artisans will be felicitated for their contribution to the handloom sector. Beneficiaries of various developmental interventions under the Raw Material Supply Scheme (RMSS) and other support initiatives, including assistance for looms, worksheds, solar lighting and skill development, will also be recognised.
