New Delhi, 8 August 2026: CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), New Delhi, successfully organised a two-day Skill Training Program on “Popular Science Writing” during 6–7 August 2026 under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative (Phase III). The program aimed to strengthen the science communication and writing skills of researchers, academicians, scientists, students, IT professionals, and R&D personnel. A total of 21 participants from across the country attended the Program.

The Program was inaugurated by Dr. Geeta Vani Rayasam, Director, CSIR-NIScPR, who encouraged participants to communicate scientific research in a simple, accurate, and engaging manner to promote scientific temper and bridge the gap between science and society. Mr. Mukesh A. Pund, Head, Training Division, CSIR-NIScPR, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of popular science writing in enhancing the societal impact of scientific research. The Program was coordinated by Ms. Meetali Bharti, Nodal Principal Investigator, and Mr. Mohd. Salim Ansari, Co-Principal Investigator. Dr. Manish Mohan Gore, Course Coordinator, provided an overview of the Program and coordinated the academic sessions throughout the training.

The programme featured expert lectures and hands-on sessions delivered by eminent resource persons, including Ms. Neha Tripathi, who spoke on Basics of Popular Science Writing and Creative Formats; Dr. Bornali Sarma delivered a session on How to Write a Popular Science Story from a Research Article; Dr. Matiur Rahman discussed the Use of AI to Create Impactful Content for Social Media; NDTV’s Science Editor Shri Pallav Bagla, conducted a practical session on Science Writing for Digital Media; Dr. Meher Wan, Scientist-D explained the Skill of Writing Press Releases on Scientific Research and Events; and Dr. Manish Mohan Gore addressed the Ethical Aspects and Career Opportunities in Popular Science Writing. The program also included interactive discussions and hands-on exercises on various genres of popular science writing, enabling participants to gain practical experience in communicating science effectively. Participants appreciated the program's practical orientation and the opportunity to interact with experienced science communicators and media professionals. The training enhanced their understanding of effective science communication, digital content creation, and science writing for diverse audiences.

The Program concluded with a valedictory session, during which Mr. Mukesh A. Pund, Head, Training addressed the participants and distributed certificates with the Program Team members. The successful completion of the program reaffirmed CSIR-NIScPR's commitment to developing skilled science communicators and promoting excellence in science communication through capacity-building initiatives under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative.
