TDB-DST Supports M/s Griva Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., Vishakhapatnam for Commercialization of Indigenous AI-Powered Cervical Cancer Screening Technology

With early and accessible screening being critical to reducing the burden of cervical cancer among women, the Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, today entered into an agreement with M/s Griva Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., Vishakhapatnamto support the manufacturing and commercialization of ‘GrivaVision’, an indigenously developed, portable digital colposcope with AI-assisted capabilities for early detection of cervical pre-cancerous lesions.
Through TDB’s support, the company will establish manufacturing capabilities at Kollam, Kerala, enabling commercial-scale production and wider deployment of the technology. The initiative seeks to make cervical cancer screening more accessible and affordable, particularly across primary and community healthcare settings, while strengthening domestic capabilities in advanced medical devices and reducing dependence on imported diagnostic equipment.
GrivaVision integrates a high-definition camera, in-built display, user-friendly interface, advanced optics, and indigenous AI-enabled software into a portable diagnostic platform. Designed for visualization of the vaginal canal and examination of cervical lesions, the system assists gynaecologists in identifying pre-cancerous abnormalities during routine clinical examinations. The technology is designed in accordance with WHO-approved Automated Visual Evaluation (AVE) standards and its software is ABDM-compliant, enabling integration with India's evolving digital health ecosystem.
The product is classified as a Class B non-invasive medical device and carries a CDSCO Class B manufacturing licence. It is being developed in accordance with ISO 13485 quality standards. The hardware architecture is proprietary and has been patented in India by Griva Healthcare. The company is presently undertaking its R&D activities at AIC-AMTZ Medivalley, Visakhapatnam, with the TDB-supported project enabling transition towards commercial manufacturing at its upcoming facility in Kerala.
A key feature of the project is its focus on indigenous development and localization. The technology has been developed and built in India, with more than 50% of product components currently sourced indigenously. Commercialization at scale is expected to further strengthen the domestic medical device value chain and create a cost-effective Indian alternative in cervical cancer diagnostics.
The technology assumes particular relevance considering the large population of women eligible for cervical cancer screening in India. By combining portability, digital imaging, AI-assisted assessment, and ease of deployment, GrivaVision has the potential to extend screening beyond specialized healthcare facilities and support healthcare professionals in reaching women in underserved and resource-constrained regions.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, stated, “Early detection can make a decisive difference in addressing cervical cancer. Indigenous technologies such as GrivaVision demonstrate how medical devices, digital health and artificial intelligence can come together to address a critical healthcare need at scale. TDB’s support is aimed at taking such home-grown innovations from technology development to commercial manufacturing, making advanced screening solutions more accessible while strengthening India’s self-reliance in medical technologies.”
Expressing gratitude for TDB’s support, the leadership of Griva Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. stated that the assistance will enable the company to transition its indigenous technology to commercial-scale manufacturing and expand access to AI-assisted cervical cancer screening. The company noted that its endeavour is to make reliable screening technology available closer to women, particularly in regions where access to specialized diagnostic infrastructure remains limited.
