Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) is one of the cluster of initiatives under DeenDayalAntyodayaYojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) aimed at livelihood diversification and poverty reduction. DDU-GKY aims to skill rural youth and promote sustainable livelihoods for rural youth through placement-linked skilling programs. To align with evolving industry requirements and emerging employment opportunities, revised guidelines under DDU-GKY 2.0 have been rolled out from FY 2025-26 with focus on industry-led training, sustainable employment, enhanced post-placement support, upskilling and reskilling opportunities and greater flexibility in training delivery. Emerging sectors such as Electric Vehicle (EV) maintenance, renewable energy, logistics, healthcare, care economy, retail, hospitality and media & entertainment are also being prioritised. Since inception, around 18.45 lakh rural youth have been trained and about 12.35 lakh candidates have been placed under the scheme.

 

Training under DDU-GKY has been imparted across diverse sectors including Apparel, Automotive, Beauty & Wellness, Construction, Electronics, Healthcare, Hospitality, IT-ITES, Logistics, Retail, Telecom, Agriculture and allied sectors, among others. Placement of trained candidates is facilitated through mandatory industry partnerships, employer tie-ups, job fairs, campus placement drives, industry consultations, and engagement with Sector Skill Councils and employers. The scheme mandates placement-linked outcomes and continuous industry participation in curriculum design and training delivery. Further, the features like 20% allocation of targets to captive employers in each State/UT and the batch mode payments to Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) linked to successful mandatory placement period of 6 months, have been incorporated to ensure coordination with industries.

 

To improve retention and sustainability of employment, DDU-GKY 2.0 emphasizes long-term employment outcomes (minimum 70% placement including maximum 20% self or gig employment for minimum of 6 months) through one year post-placement tracking and support, counselling, migration support, alumni engagement, grievance redressal mechanisms, and opportunities for upskilling/reskilling. Under the revised framework, candidates are required to be tracked and supported for a longer duration to facilitate sustained employment and career progression. Since inception, about 12.35 lakh candidates have been placed under the Scheme.

 

For FY 2026-27, Budget Estimates (BE) of ₹750 crore has been kept for training around 1.37 lakh rural youth. Further, Mother Sanction amounting ₹361.96 crore has been issued to the States/UTs and an expenditure of ₹50.89 crore has been made by the States/UTs till date.

 

In the State of Madhya Pradesh, DDU-GKY is being implemented through the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MPSRLM). Since inception, around 93 thousand candidates have been trained and around 56 thousand candidates have been placed in the State of Madhya Pradesh under the scheme. Further, for FY 2026-27, mother sanction amounting to ₹10.00 crore has been issued to the State of Madhya Pradesh.
