Central Government has approved Vibrant Villages Programme-I (VVP-I) as Centrally Sponsored Scheme on 15th February, 2023 for comprehensive development of select villages in 46 blocks abutting northern border in the States/UT of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh (UT), Sikkim and Uttarakhand.

Central Government has approved Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II) as Central Sector Scheme on 02nd April, 2025 with a total outlay of ₹6839 crores till the Financial Year 2028-29 for the comprehensive development of 1954 select villages located in 334 blocks abutting the International Land Borders (ILBs) other than the northern border already covered under VVP-I in the States/UTs of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir (UT), Ladakh (UT), Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal for addressing the unique and specific challenges warranting area-specific strategies.

 

2906 projects have been sanctioned under VVP-I by MHA and through convergence by Central Ministries/Departments. ₹959.66 crore has been released to States/UT under VVP-I till date.

A High-Powered Committee (HPC) under the chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary (Border Management), Secretary (Expenditure) and Secretary of the concerned Ministry/Department as the members has been approved by Central Government to undertake relaxations in schematic guidelines of schemes of various ministries for effective implementation in border villages under VVP-II.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Shri Nityanand Rai in a written reply to a question in the the Rajya Sabha.
