Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya (MGAHV), Wardha, organised a special lecture on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on Friday, August 14, 2026. The programme aimed to commemorate the human tragedy, displacement and suffering caused by the Partition of India, while familiarising the younger generation with the historical experiences of that period and highlighting the importance of national unity, social harmony and communal amity. On the occasion, a Partition Horrors Exhibition was inaugurated at Vachaspati Bhavan.
The special lecture, held at Mahadevi Verma Auditorium, was delivered by the Chief Guest, Prof. Shamrao Koreti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. He said that the Partition claimed the lives of lakhs of men and women, while countless others became victims of one of the greatest human tragedies in history. Although the announcement of the Partition was made on June 3, 1947, he observed that its consequences have never been fully analysed. Referring to the large-scale massacres that took place in different parts of the country, he said these events serve as reminders of a blood-soaked chapter in history. He remarked that India had to pay a heavy price for its Independence and paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the Partition, remembering their sacrifices.
The programme was presided over by Prof. Avadhesh Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Literature, who called upon everyone to work towards an integrated and united India through the values of peace and brotherhood.
The programme commenced with the University Song and concluded with the National Song and the National Anthem. It was conducted by Dr. Balaji Chirde, Coordinator of the seminar.
University professors, along with a large number of research scholars and students, were prominently present on the occasion.
