Central Government Institutes in Nagpur Celebrate 80th Independence Day with Enthusiasm


Flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic programmes and community participation mark the 80th Independence Day celebrations across several Central Government institutions

Nagpur, 15th August, 2026

The nation celebrated its 80th Independence Day with pride and patriotic fervour, commemorating eight decades of India’s journey as a free and democratic nation. Central Government institutes in Nagpur marked the occasion with flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic programmes and enthusiastic participation of officers, employees, students, trainees and their families. From healthcare and management to disaster preparedness, forensic sciences, mining, power, telecommunications and social empowerment, the celebrations reflected the diverse contributions of these institutions towards nation-building. PIB Nagpur presents glimpses of the Independence Day celebrations held across nine Central Government institutes in the city.

 

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Nagpur

AIIMS Nagpur celebrated the 80th Independence Day with a ceremony that highlighted the institute’s progress in medical education, research, patient care and student development. The National Flag was hoisted by Dr (Prof.) Prashant P. Joshi, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Nagpur, followed by the National Anthem and a march-past by security personnel. Dr Joshi highlighted the institute’s recent achievements, including its rankings among India’s leading medical colleges and NABH Full Accreditation. The celebrations also included the “Run for Unity” marathon organised jointly by the Residents’ Doctors Association and Students’ Council.


 

 

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Academy, Nagpur

The NDRF Academy celebrated the 80th Independence Day at its newly established Suradevi campus with patriotic fervour and solemnity. The National Flag was hoisted by Brigadier R. Sathya Narayanan, Director, NDRF Academy, in the presence of officers, staff, trainees and their families. Addressing over 400 personnel and guests, Brigadier Narayanan paid tribute to the freedom fighters and underlined the responsibility of protecting citizens from natural and man-made disasters. The occasion also highlighted the Academy’s role in specialised training and capacity building for NDRF, SDRF and Civil Defence personnel.





 

Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Nagpur

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Headquarters of the Indian Bureau of Mines, Nagpur. The celebrations commenced with the singing of “Vande Mataram”, followed by the unfurling of the National Flag by Shri Pankaj Kulshrestha, Controller General, IBM. He highlighted India’s progress over the past eight decades and the growing capabilities of the mineral sector, particularly in the area of Critical Minerals. Officers, employees, retired employees, children and family members participated in the celebrations, while winners of an essay competition were also felicitated.

 

 

Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur

IIM Nagpur celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, hoisted the National Flag at the Institute’s flag post, followed by the National Anthem and a security march-past. The celebrations continued with a cultural programme featuring classical dance, poetry, singing, Western dance and drama. Faculty members, staff, students and their children participated in the programme, adding a warm community spirit to the celebrations.

 

National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Nagpur

The National Forensic Sciences University, Nagpur Campus, an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs, celebrated the 80th Independence Day at its IT Park campus on South Ambazari Road. Students and staff presented patriotic poems and speeches under the guidance of Prof. Dr. S. O. Junare, Campus Director. The event was coordinated by Dr. Niraj Kumar Singh, Academic Coordinator, and witnessed the participation of faculty, staff and students. The celebration paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices laid the foundation of independent India.

 

National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), Mouda

NTPC Mouda marked the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, beginning with the rendition of “Vande Mataram”, followed by the flag-hoisting ceremony, Guard of Honour, National Anthem and inspection of the parade. Shri Joseph Bastian, Executive Director & Head of Project, NTPC Mouda, extended Independence Day greetings and highlighted NTPC’s contribution to the nation’s growth. Patriotic performances by students added colour to the celebrations. The programme also featured the presentation of several awards recognising excellence, commitment, safety and service across the NTPC Mouda community.

 

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Nagpur Business Area

BSNL Nagpur Business Area celebrated the 80th Independence Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the PGMT Office, Nagpur. Smt. Namratta Tiwari, Principal General Manager, BSNL Nagpur BA, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of officers and employees. Addressing the gathering, she paid tribute to the freedom fighters and highlighted BSNL’s commitment to reliable telecom services and strengthening Digital India. She also urged the staff to rededicate themselves to nation-building and quality public service. The ceremony concluded with patriotic songs and the National Anthem.

Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Nagpur

JNARDDC celebrated the 80th Independence Day on August 15 with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. Shri Pankaj Kulshrestha, Controller General, Indian Bureau of Mines and Director, JNARDDC, unfurled the National Flag, followed by the singing of “Vande Mataram” and the National Anthem. Employees and their family members participated enthusiastically, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion. The celebration reflected a strong sense of national pride, unity and renewed commitment towards the progress and development of the nation.

Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC–Nagpur)

CRC–Nagpur celebrated the 80th Independence Day with enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and active participation of Divyangjan, their parents, children, staff and invited guests. The programme began with a ceremonial salute, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag by Shri Prafull Shinde, Director, CRC–Nagpur, and the National Anthem. The Director highlighted the role of every citizen in nation-building, social inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities. Patriotic and cultural performances by staff and beneficiaries added a special touch to the celebrations, which concluded with a renewed commitment to rehabilitation, empowerment, accessibility and inclusive participation.
