The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Western Regional Centre (WRC), Pune, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm, patriotic spirit and a strong sense of togetherness. The celebration reflected the Centre’s commitment to the nation, its people and the conservation of India’s rich biodiversity.

The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The atmosphere was filled with pride and patriotism as the staff came together to honour the nation and remember the sacrifices of those who fought for India’s freedom.

A special highlight of the celebration was the “Tiranga Vanam” tree plantation programme, organised as a meaningful tribute to the nation. The initiative brought together the inspiring theme of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”.

The plantation programme symbolised love and gratitude towards our mothers, respect for the spirit of freedom and a collective commitment towards a green, sustainable and developed Bharat. Through Tiranga Vanam, the WRC conveyed that our responsibility towards the nation also includes protecting its natural heritage and biodiversity.

The programme carried the simple yet powerful message: “Freedom belongs to every species.” As we celebrate our own freedom, it is equally important to create a world where every species has the freedom to survive, thrive and contribute to the balance of nature.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Basudev Tripathy, Officer-in-Charge, WRC, Pune, extended his warm wishes to all staff members on the occasion of Independence Day. He encouraged everyone to work for the organisation with dedication, sincerity and “Seva Bhaav” — a spirit of service.

He emphasised that every individual has an important role to play in strengthening the organisation and contributing to the larger goals of the nation. He urged the staff to perform their responsibilities with commitment and teamwork, keeping the interests of the organisation and the country at heart.

The celebration was further enriched by a soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram”, which filled the gathering with patriotic fervour and love for the motherland.

The programme concluded with a small cultural programme presented by the employees of WRC. Through music and cultural performances, the staff added warmth, joy and a personal touch to the celebrations, making the occasion a memorable one for everyone.

The WRC family extends its warmest wishes to everyone on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day and renews its commitment to serving the nation through scientific research, biodiversity documentation and conservation.
